In November, OpenAI launched an intelligent language-generating model called ChatGPT that could answer almost any question coherently and in surprising detail. It is estimated over 30% of working professionals have tried using ChatGPT at work.
If you ask it the right questions, ChatGPT represents an incredible resource and tool. And people noticed fast — within five days it gained over 1 million users, and now Microsoft is in talks for a potential $10 billion investment in the company.
I created an account and started typing in random questions to see what type of answers I’d receive. Here are some samples questions I posed:
- Should I buy Bitcoin?
- Is the stock market a smart investment?
- Will ChatGPT take my job?
I was surprised by the answers to the questions. They were intelligently answered and contained facts but also ‘opinions’ such as:
‘Is the stock market a smart investment’
ChatGPT said:
“It’s important to note that investing in the stock market should be done with caution and after careful consideration of personal financial goals, risk tolerance, and investment strategies. It’s advisable to seek guidance from a qualified financial advisor who can provide personalized advice based on your individual circumstances.
And
Should I buy Bitcoin?
ChatGPT said:
“It’s important to note that investing in bitcoin can be complex and requires a good understanding of blockchain technology and how cryptocurrencies work. You should also be aware of the potential regulatory and legal risks associated with cryptocurrencies in your country. If you are interested in investing in bitcoin, it may be helpful to do your own research.”
Lastly, when asked
Will ChatGPT take my job?
ChatGPT said:
As an AI language model, ChatGPT is not capable of taking anyone’s job. It is designed to be a tool that can assist and support people in their work by providing quick and accurate responses to their queries. While AI and automation are changing the nature of work in some industries, they are also creating new job opportunities in areas such as machine learning, data analysis, and AI development. Ultimately, the role of AI language models like ChatGPT is to complement and enhance human capabilities, rather than replace them.
So, not as scary as it has been made out to be – at least to this newbie. It appears to be a useful resource – currently – but definitely something we should all be aware of and watch to see how this develops…
